As part of any high school and college's attempts to integrate new students into their institution, an orientation week full of activities is usually held in order to calm the nerves.
The Sultan Sharif Ali Secondary School was no exception as some 180 Year Seven students registered during the school's first day of orientation, three days ago, took part in the event.
On the first day, students attended a briefing followed by a surah al-fatihah recital. The school principal, Hajah Zaliha binti Haji Dollah, then presented her welcoming speech.
In addition, speeches were also presented by the deputy principal, senior teacher of academics, administration heads, the head of Student Affairs, as well as a speaker from the registrar and vehicle facilities section. Students then participated in the recital of the school pledge.
The second day of the orientation week saw students participating in a motivational programme that was dubbed 'Team Excellence', which was organised and facilitated by the Counselling and Careers Guidance Services in cooperation with Human Resources Development.
Students then attended a financial management briefing presented by the Islamic Bank of Brunei Darussalam prior to being led on a tour of the school grounds and facilities such as it's laboratories.
The third day of orientation (yesterday) proved to be more entertaining for the students as they participated in mini sporting events organised by the Physical Education Department at the multipurpose hall.
The closing ceremony is scheduled to take place this Saturday, which will see students in several Year Seven classes taking part in a Dakwah song competition. A ceremony will also take place where, a Talented Student Award, Gifted Student Award and Brave Student Award will be presented.
The main objective of hosting the orientation week is to foster a spirit of continuing commitment among students to help them strive for excellence in various fields of academic interest.
