Dental hygiene should be taught at an early age to prevent serious tooth decay.
Hence, Haji Tarif Primary School, Brunei I, Mukim Tamoi recently held a tooth-brushing activity for its pupils which was launched by the school's headmistress, Dayang Hamiltun Haji Abdul Samad.
Cikgu Roy Morni bin Awang, the school's Science teacher provided information about oral hygiene, dental function and a demonstration on proper brushing methods. This knowledge is important for students to ensure that food that get stuck in between the teeth can be removed to prevent tooth decay.
Cikgu Hamiltun then distributed record forms for the tooth-brushing activity and toothbrushes and toothpaste to the respective class teachers to ensure that all pupils brush their teeth every day after recess.
Each student is supplied with a toothbrush including the teachers, contributed by the school administration.
The activity is intended to provide early exposure to the students on the correct brushing techniques so that good dental hygiene can be maintained throughout their lives.
