In conjunction with Brunei Darussalam's 27th National Day celebrations, Kampong Bunut Mosque Muslimah Committee recently held a Murattal Competition on Surah Al-Fatihah and Ayat-Ayat Lazim at the Kg Bunut Mosque.
The guest of honour at the event was Ustazah Hajah Sarimah binti Haji Ahmad, the wife of the Acting Director of Mosque Affairs Department, Ministry of Religious Affairs.
The competition was open to the residents of Perpindahan Kampong Bunut, Kampong Madewa, Kampong Sungai Ketam, Kampong Telanai and Kampong Tasek Meradun. The competition was divided into two categories; Category A for 56 years and above; and Category B for 55 years and below.
In her speech, the chairwoman of the event, Dayang Hajah Zaleha binti Haji Momin said, "It is important to read the surah al-Fatihah with the right 'tajwid' so that what we read will not be in vain (not accepted by Allah the Almighty)."
The winner in Category A was Dayang Hajah Jamilah binti DP Haji Noordin (Surah ad-Dhuha), followed by Dayang Hajah Habibah binti Haji Abd Rasol and Pengiran Hajh Aspah binti Pengiran Haji Abd Rahman, who came in second and third places respectively.
Meanwhile, in Category B, first place went to Pengiran Hajah Salbiah binti Pengiran Hashim (Surah ad-Dhuha), followed by Hajah Ajijah binti Haji Momin and Hajah Norain binti Haji Abd Ghani, who won second and third places respectively.
The event was further enlivened with a Tausyeh performance, followed by the presentation of prizes by the guest of honour to the winners.
The competition was aimed at encouraging people to always read the Quran properly and completely, especially surah al-Fatihah.
The Murattal Competition is an annual project of Kampong Bunut Mosque Muslimah Committee.
